We have financed the construction of Jambo Educational Center, an elementary and secondary school that serves the most disadvantaged children from the vulnerable region of Nairobi. The school’s mission is to provide quality education, healthcare, life skills, and confidence to empower these children, enabling them to break free from poverty and build successful futures.
In 2018 and 2019, the World Dream Foundation conducted two missions in Nairobi to provide school supplies and medical assistance to the Mukuru and Mathare slums. While sending supplies and funding temporarily alleviated the burden, we realized it wouldn’t be sufficient. These two missions inspired our founder, Julia Folk, to establish a new school in Nairobi. She explains, “While sending supplies and funding helped reduce the burden on the schools we were working with in Kenya, we understood that more was needed. That’s why we’re building a new school for children outside the slums. Our mission is to nurture dreams and raise expectations, giving children the opportunity for a brighter future.”
After a successful fundraising campaign, construction of the Jambo Educational Center began in autumn 2019. Although the COVID-19 pandemic presented significant challenges, the school managed to meet its financial requirements. It officially welcomed students in 2023 and is now fully operational, offering underprivileged children from Nairobi a safe and supportive environment.
Jambo Educational Center provides free education to children ages 5-12 (Grades 1-4), helping them break the cycle of poverty. Students attend school five days a week, receiving supplies, uniforms, two daily meals, healthcare, and access to a garden and playground. The center offers programs that support cognitive development, confidence, and leadership skills, preparing students for success beyond the classroom and empowering future generations. This project is ongoing, and we remain dedicated to supporting the school so that it can continue to develop and thrive.
